Sioux-Preme Packing Company has always been unique in our
livestock purchasing
practices.
We are very familiar with the all-in-all-out
practices of livestock production, and
are able to focus our buying program on the last 10-20%
of the animals from these
facilities, which are traditionally the lighter weight pigs.
Currently, our procurement has different areas of
focus. We continue to buy the light hogs ranging
from 100-230 pounds and heavy end butchers and cull
gilts ranging from 290-330 pounds. In addition to
this we also buy market weight hogs ranging from
230-290 pounds. We are able to schedule deliveries
approximately one week in advance.
Sioux-Preme has provided "slaughter
checks" as a service to our
producers for many
years.
These checks, provided either through your personal vet
or a vet from the local area, allow producers to
get first-hand information on
livestock health, not only for the current group, but
also trends that can be
identified in order to react quickly to any potential
health problems.
Another
focus area is meat quality. Meat quality is more
important than just the leanness of the carcass. Meat
quality also has to do with
water-holding capacity, color and taste. We have been
performing meat quality evaluations
since 2002. Many producers, genetics
companies, purebred breeders,
and feed companies request these quality evaluations
on a monthly basis. We agree this is an important
industry trend, and that
this information will help everyone be more successful.
